Who We Are

TLC House is a sober transitional living home and domestic violence shelter serving women and, in some cases, their children. The program provides a safe, structured, and confidential environment for individuals seeking stability after experiences of domestic violence, substance use, or housing instability.

TLC House emphasizes safety, respect, and shared responsibility within the home. Residents agree to follow house policies, remain substance-free, and participate in work, recovery supports, or other approved activities. Clear expectations help create a stable, predictable environment that supports both women and children living in the home.

TLC House is not a treatment facility. Instead, it operates as a structured living environment that supports residents as they maintain recovery, build stability, and work toward independent living within the community.

TLC House exists to provide a safe, confidential, and supportive shelter for women and their children who are impacted by domestic violence and housing instability. The program is committed to offering a stable living environment that prioritizes safety, dignity, and accountability.

Through structured living, clear expectations, and connection to community resources, TLC House supports residents as they work toward self-sufficiency and prepare for independent living beyond their time in the program.

TLC House began in 2008 with the vision of a woman and two close friends who wanted to create a safe place for women and children experiencing domestic violence in Steuben County, Indiana. From that vision, TLC-Steuben, Inc. was formed and later received 501(c)(3) nonprofit status.

In 2010, a home was gifted to the organization, and community members worked together to prepare the residence for use. The first woman entered the home in November 2011, marking the beginning of TLC’s role as a place of safety and stability within the community.

As community needs evolved, so did the organization. In 2019, TLC began operating under the name TLC House Indiana, reflecting an expanded focus on sober transitional living while continuing to uphold its founding mission of providing safe shelter, dignity, and support for women and their children impacted by domestic violence.

How We Operate

TLC House operates under the leadership of an Executive Director and is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. The Board provides oversight related to policy, fiscal responsibility, and long-term planning, while daily operations are managed by staff.

The home operates according to established policies and procedures that guide daily routines, resident responsibilities, and safety expectations. These policies are applied consistently to support fairness, accountability, and stability within the home.

TLC House coordinates with community partners and external service providers to support residents as they work toward independence and stability.
